Obituary for David Owen Watson

David Owen Watson, 78, of Winchester, Virginia passed away from heart failure on Friday,
September 14, 2018, at the Blue Ridge Hospice Care Unit in Winchester.
David was born in El Reno, Oklahoma in 1940, the son of Delbert and Violet Watson. He
graduated from Northwest Classen High School in Oklahoma City in 1958 and from the
University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army from
1965-67 at Vint Hill Farms Station near Warrenton, Virginia. He then worked as a Contract
Specialist for various U.S. Federal Government agencies in Washington, DC and in Frankfurt,
West Germany, until his retirement from FDIC/Resolution Trust Corporation in 1995.
David currently had homes in Winchester and in Jacksonville, Florida. He was an avid duplicate
bridge player and played in several clubs in both places. He closely followed the stock market
and OU Sooners football, enjoyed cooking and breadmaking, and was an afficiando of blues
music. Until recently, he also had been very active in bowling, golf, ham radio, horseshoes and
skiing.
Surviving is his wife, Candice Watson; his children, Drew Watson of Lansing, New York, Aimee
Sheehan of Leesburg, Virginia, and Carrie Hageman of Orange Park, Florida; nine
grandchildren; and two sisters, Margot Novak of Portland, Oregon, and Nita Whitney of Auburn,
Nebraska. He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Meyer-Wendt of Hamilton, New York,
earlier in September.
The family is gathering for a private celebration of his life later this month.
