Obituary for Edward Harrison "Ed" Grove II

Edward Harrison Grove, 97, of Winchester, VA passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Hilltop House in Winchester.
He was born June 8, 1920 in Kernstown, VA, the son of Claude M. and Lillian E. Grove. A graduate of Handley High School, Edward was a World War II veteran. He served in the Sixth Armored Division, which took part in the Normandy campaign. Wounded and captured by the German army, Edward was a P.O.W. until liberated by the Russian Army in 1945. After the war, he continued his military service and retired as a Major. He concluded his career as a civilian working for the Army Security Agency based at the Pentagon and in Arlington, Va.
Edward married Janet Rockwell Grove, December 24, 1941 in Beavercreek, MD.
Along with his wife, Janet, of 75 years, he is survived by two children Edward H. Grove lll, of King Copsico, Montross, and Vickie S. Grove of Portola Valley, CA; five grandchildren, one great grandchild, his sister, Helen Elizabeth Polhamus of Berryville, and three nieces and their families.
He spent his retirement years enjoying fishing, travel with family and long vacations in Florida.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening July 6, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Jones funeral Home in Winchester. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. July 7, 2017 at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ken Patrick officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hebron cemetery. Ed Grove (son), Edward Grove (grandson), Charles Grove (grandson), H. Wise Kelly, Jerry Singleton and David Fair will serve as pall bearers.
