Elizabeth Jo Racer, “Betty”, 75 of Winchester, died December 30, 2017 at University of Virginia Hospital.
Betty was born June 26, 1942, in Middlesboro, KY, the daughter of the late Joseph and Louise Stanley Edens. She was the Director at the Durrell Foundation until her retirement in 2001. Betty was a member of Stone’s Chapel Presbyterian Church. Betty was a woman of many accomplishments, but was proudest of her role as wife and mother.
After a high school courtship Betty married the love of her life, Ray Carson Racer, November 4, 1961 at Stone’s Chapel in Clarke County, VA.
She is survived by her husband Ray; three sons, Christian Racer of Harpers Ferry, WV, David Racer and his wife Tonia of Gerrardstown, WV and Scott Patrick Racer of Winchester; three brothers, Bruce Edens and his wife Brenda of Yellow Springs, WV, Thomas Edens and his wife Patti of Clear Brook, VA and Stanley Edens and his wife Becky of Southampton, NJ; four sisters, Bernice Elliott and her husband Earl of Winchester, Jean Montonera of Verona, WI, Ruby Orndoff of Winchester, and Patricia Edens of Winchester; many nieces and nephews and her precious fur baby, Piper.
She is preceded in death by a brother, Howard Edens and a sister, Bobbie Norten.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 4, 2017 from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 5, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Hebron Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Bly, Jason Bly, Travis Edens, Justin Edens, Richard Edens, and Edward Edens.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Stone’s Chapel Memorial Association, P.O. Box 844, Berryville, VA 22611.
