Obituary for Allen Leroy "Al" Shirley
Allen Leroy Shirley “Al”, 83, of Winchester, VA passed away Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Warren Memorial Hospital.
Al was born July 22, 1935, in Glengary, WV, the son of the late Henry and Lola Dick Shirley. He was a farmer and the previous owner of Al Shirley and Sons, Inc. He was a member of the Winchester Moose, the Gideons and Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
He married Dorothy Ann Hoover, September 13, 1955 in Hagerstown, MD.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Susan Dunn of Stephenson, VA; sons, Timothy Shirley and his wife Robin of Cross Junction and James “Kelly” Shirley and his wife Jane of Winchester; grandchildren, Tiffany Speet, Tracy Howell, Brian Ingles, Brandi Shirley, Timmy Shirley, Travis Shirley and Connie Haines; thirteen great grandchildren and his brother Donald Shirley and his wife Marcella of Stephenson.
He is preceded in death by two brothers.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, April 8, 2019 at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester.
A funeral service will be held April 9, 2019, at 11:00 am at Jones Funeral Home, with Rev. Barry Burkholder and Rev. Jim Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Brian Ingles, Wally Haines, Timmy Shirley, Travis Shirley, David Shirley and Tommy Shirley. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Howell, Mike Wine, Perry Cooper and Butch Pearson.
Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Al Shirley, to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 2732 Martinsburg Pike, Stephenson, VA, 22656.
