Obituary for Anne Davison Lewis (Davison)

On November 12, 2020, Anne Davison Lewis died at home, surrounded by family, at the age of 92 after a brief illness.
Anne Lewis was born in Clarkesville, Tennessee on April 15, 1928. She was the daughter of Rev. Dr. John A. Davison and Anne Victoria Green Davison. She was the middle of two sisters, Sarah Quinn Davison Roden and Margaret Davison Cox. She was raised in Selma, Alabama.
Anne earned a Bachelor’s degree from Randolph Macon Woman’s College in 1950, with a major in Religion. She subsequently earned a Master’s degree in School Counseling, and later a Masters of Divinity degree. Anne worked as a school social worker for many years in the Scranton School District, Scranton, PA.
Anne was married for many years to Rev. William Phelps Lewis of Scranton, Pennsylvania, who preceded her in death in 1984.
Anne was active member of churches wherever she lived. She has traveled widely. She loved people and animals and she volunteered and gave to many charitable causes. She spent her summers in Pemaquid, Maine, from the early 1960s until 2019.
Anne was survived by two adult children, Elizabeth Anne Lewis, a diplomat for the U.S. Department of State and John Davison Lewis, a neuropsychologist, both now of Winchester, Virginia. She has three grandchildren, Sarah Lewis of Bridgeport, Connecticut, Rebecca Lewis and Jacob Lewis, both also of Winchester.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, November 16 at 1:30 at the Hunting Ridge Retreat Center in Frederick County, Virginia. Memorial gifts can be donated to a charity of the giver’s choice.
