Obituary for Earl R. Sutherland
Earl Rush Sutherland, 76, of Winchester, VA, died Saturday, May 11, 2019 at his residence.
He was born June 19, 1942 in Charlottesville, VA, the son of Jasper R. and Rubye Hobbs Sutherland. He married Sandra Gail Small on July 7, 2000 in Winchester.
He graduated from VPI in Blacksburg, VA Class of 1964 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and in 1966 received a Master of Science. In 1965 he was initiated a member of VPI Chapter of Chi Epsilon Fraternity, a National Honorary Civil Engineering Fraternity. He was employed as a civil engineer for 50 years by Pennoni Associates, Inc., specializing in the design of water and wastewater facilities.
Earl is survived by his wife, Sandra; two daughters, Mary Lynn Sutherland of Wilmington, DE, and Susan Ann Fernandez, of Orlando, FL; stepson, Robert P. Mason of Martinsburg, WV; a sister, Anne Petty of Florence, AL; an aunt, Jane Lyon, of Richmond, VA, an uncle, Fred Sutherland, of Sandston, VA; two grandchildren and two step- grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 3:00 pm at the Jones Funeral Home in Winchester.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made in his name to Froggy’s Closet, 32 E. Piccadilly St., Winchester, VA 22601 or Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, VA 22601.
