Obituary for Gary Allen Carlisle
Gary Allen Carlisle, 70, of Winchester, VA, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Winchester Medical Center.
Gary was born May 1, 1952 in Winchester, VA, the son of the late Roy and Virginia Carlisle. Gary attended Clarke County High School, where his love for music grew, making lifelong “band mates”. Gary played drums in numerous bands, he taught young men, but his biggest joy was playing with the praise band at Fellowship Bible Church. Gary married the love of his life, Barbara “Barbie” Prather Carlisle on November 25, 1981. Gary loved his Lord, his family, and his friends dearly.
Gary had a distinguished government career. Even though never being in the military, he was honored to serve them. When talking about his work, he would talk about different assignments being deployed as a civilian during Desert Shield/Desert Storm (where he arrived the night the bombing started) to train soldiers to use new communications equipment. He traveled extensively overseas while being the US representative for communications networking systems committee with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and taking his turn at chairing the committee.
Gary is survived by his wife, Barbara “Barbie” Prather Carlisle of Winchester; sister, Bonnie Carlisle Geller of Bowie, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 17, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Fellowship Bible Church in Winchester. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at Fellowship Bible with Scott Santmier officiating. Burial will take place at Shenandoah Memorial Park following the services. A luncheon will take place at Fellowship Bible Church after the burial.
