Obituary

Karen Elizabeth Dew Messinger, 72, of Middletown Va, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2020 in an assisted living center in Winchester VA.

Karen was born October 2, 1947 in Roanoke VA; the daughter of the late Fred Roderick Dew and Joan Hall Dew. She graduated from William Fleming High School in 1965. She was a drum majorette and played trumpet First Chair. She was also a member of the All State Band in her junior year. In her upbringing she and her sister Sandra were taught the love of music and singing by her Momma Joan, who was the organist for their church. Karen also attended Virginia Western and received her degree in Business. She later became a dental hygenist for Thomas Phalen (for 25 years) in which careers aside, they also became loving companions. Karen later on went to work for Lowe's Home Improvements of Winchester for 13 years. Karen also had a love for animals, especially dogs. Her love of dachshunds is known to everyone; namely Stanley, Sharona, Sandi, Hahns, and Weenie who just passed this year.

Karen is survived by her daughters, Christine Taylor ( Jeremiah ) of Strasburg VA and Kellie Messinger ( Benjamin ) of Stephens City VA; and her grandchildren, Katherine Knight, James Sibert, Ashley Campbell, and Makayla Campbell. She was preceded in death by her sister, Sandra Spence.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 19, 2020 from 1-3 pm at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester.

Just wanted to drop a note to you girls and your families to let you know Iā€™m thinking of you and want to extend my prayers and condolences to all of you on this solemn day. I will always remember my summers in Virginia with your mom and Sandi and how we all loved those days. Know that you have a very loving angel watching over all of you now and she is at rest. Love to all of you. šŸ˜˜šŸ˜˜

I can't believe you've taken that walk through the pearly gates. I'm sure your dachshunds were there to great you. Find Oscar and my dad and hug them for me I know you'll continue to watch over your family. They love and miss you so much. I was coming to say goodbye but I'm iced in. So, fly high until we meet again. Love, Judy George

Karen was a loving, beautiful lady with a loving soul, and a smile for everyone. She was a good listener if friends had problems. She loved her home, flowers and her animals. She was a forever friend. It was my pleasure to be one of her many friends. I will miss her a lot. Karen you will be missed but I know you are with your family that went before you and your beloved dogs. Rest in peace my friend. I will always remember you . You are forever in my heart. Love Patricia Talaga Stanley
