I just learned this evening that Bill passed away almost two weeks ago. Faye, and Family, I am so sorry. You don't know me, but I feel I know all of you through Bill's love for all of you and his stories. Bill used to help take care of my father at home when I could not be there, and make him breakfast and lunch, and take him on errands and appointments. My father's multiple issues caused by Agent Orange finally landed him in memory care, but Bill then would go with me to take my father to endless medical appointments and required Veterans Administration exams. Before residing in memory care, my father had a frightening episode that found him in the ER in Woodstock. I live in Northern Virginia and was at home that evening. I raced up to the Valley, to find Bill, who had not even been "on duty" that night with my father, staying with him in the ER until I got there, so my dad would not be alone and confused. After my dad's subsequent pacemaker replacement at UVA Medical Center, Bill and Faye drove to New Market to visit my dad in rehab, and then, of course, Bill continued his ministrations in memory care. What a truly compassionate man Bill was, and his sorrow for my family in the loss of my only brother in 2018, was heartfelt and genuine. We had great discussions about our beloved Hokies and our different times in Blacksburg, our times in the Army and beyond, and our families. Bill loved his family dearly and that was evident every time we had an "outing" with my dad. Bill, you were a true gentleman, patriot, Mason, devoted family man and Hokie, and the World is poorer for your loss. All my sympathy to the entire Kirkland family. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful gentleman with my family. The Haskett Family: Lida, and my husband Mark and children Dennis, James and Barbara.

My sincere condolences to the family of Bill Kirkland. Although I haven't "touched base" with Bill for many years, his memory as my "brother rat" is still very fresh in my mind. May peace be with Bill and those he left behind..............Dan

Bill and I grew up in the same town LaCrosse, Va. It was a very small town where every one knew you. His parents and my parents were good friends. We went to elementary, high school, and college together. He was a good friend and I grieve for his family. Randy Jones

Our over 55 years memories of Bill will forever live in our hearts. His laughter, ease of humor, and caring for others will be his legacy. His last supportive conversation filled with laughter was with Bill S.on Wednesday, February 5. Bill was a groomsman in our wedding and he and Faye have been a faithful part of our Hokie "M company"family always enjoying our annual reunions or other times we can get together. Faye, Keith, Erin, Julianna, and Ren we will be with you in heart and spirit Saturday, as Bill can not travel at this time.
Our forever love,
Bill & Linda Sue
