Obituary for Wilbur Lane Sluss

Wilbur Lane  Sluss
Wilbur L. Sluss, 82, of Winchester, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, December 13, 2012 at his home.

Mr. Sluss was born on July 18, 1930 in Tazewell, VA; the son of the late James Powell Sluss and Margaret Ida Dickenson Sluss. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Phillip Sluss.

He was a member and Trustee of The People’s Country Church in Winchester. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post #21 and the Korean War Veteran’s Association Chapter 313.

He married Tressa JoAnn Davis on June 18, 1951.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his children, Ricky L. Sluss of Franklin, VA, Tammy Jo Lemley and her husband, William E. of Shepherdstown, WV, Carla Ann Hammond and her husband, Christopher S. of Winchester; brothers, Wayne Sluss and his wife, Mary of Tazewell, VA, Donald P. Sluss and his wife Mazie of Tazewell, VA; sisters, Zelma Karnes of Princeton, WV, Phyllis Wingo and her husband, Gordon of Bluefield, VA and Ruth Fields and her husband, Jerry of Chester, VA; six grandchildren, Michelle L. Lloyd, Michael S. Lloyd, Nicholas R. Sluss Buzard, Nathaniel H. Sluss Buzard, Kalynn E. Hammond and Ashton N. Hammond; six great grandchildren, Austin L. Lloyd, Emily E. Lemley, Tiffany R. Lemley, Tyler S. Lloyd, Kyler M. Lloyd and Peyton D. Lloyd.

The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Barbara L. Roby and Rev. Ross Halbersma officiating. Entombment will follow at Shenandoah Memorial Park.

A reception will follow at the People’s Country Church, 700 Hunting Ridge Road (Rt.608), Winchester.
