Helen L. Pifer, 84, of Winchester, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011 in Luray, VA

She was born April 13, 1927 in Winchester; the daughter of E.R. and Grace Hawkins Whitacre. She retired as a head nurse with Winchester Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Church of Christ at Mountainview.

She married Robert L. Pifer, Sr. on July 15, 1950 in Hagerstown, MD.

Along with her husband, she is survived by her children, Robert L. Pifer, Jr. of Winchester, Leta F. Griffith of Berryville, VA and Edward R. Pifer of Cross Junction, VA; seven grandchildren, Deanna Pifer, Daniel Pifer, Valerie Gordon, Rachel Skrabel, Edward R., Pifer, Jr., Robin Gail Perlick, Thomas Mark Pifer and seven great grandchildren.

Services will be private.
