Rebecca A. VanMeter, 79, of Winchester, died Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Blue Ridge Hospice In-Patient Care Center.
Mrs. VanMeter was born on October 11, 1937 in Frederick County, VA; the daughter of Vestal T. Swisher and Mary Richards Swisher. She had worked at Henkel-Harris and more recently as a coffee hostess at Sheetz Convenience Store. She was a member of Eagles Aerie 824.
She married Clyde P. VanMeter on August 28, 1954 in Hayfield, VA. Mr. VanMeter preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, Rodney VanMeter and his wife Diane of Stephens City and Lou VanMeter and his wife Carol of Winchester; three sisters, Marie Shifflett and Margaret Clowser both of Winchester and Ruth Wenger of Akron, PA; one brother, Cecil Swisher of Winchester; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Ann VanMeter and her brother, Cletus Swisher.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Ken H. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
