Obituary for Adolphe Charles "Kic" Kiczales

Adolphe Charles "Kic"  Kiczales
Dr. Adolphe Charles “Kic” Kiczales, 86, of Winchester, VA passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at his home.

He was born on February 23, 1930; the son of Maurice D. and Flora Gordon Kiczales. He graduated from George Washington University Medical School, served with the US Army at the American Hospital in Paris was a psychiatrist in the Shenandoah Valley for 55 years.

He and Dr. Bruce M. Gray co-founded the Winchester Medical Center Psychiatric Unit. In addition to his private practice, he served Northwestern Community Service’s Winchester, Front Royal, Luray, and Woodstock Clinics, Timber Ridge School and Winchester Community Mental Health. He was a member of the Winchester Lions Club, and one of the co-founders of the Golden Rule Bible Class.

He saw a great need for urgent and immediate care and founded CONCERN Hotline in addition to Commonwealth Care. His passion and his patience for his patients was unending, his gift of humor and storytelling was healing and transformative. He spoke great truths with the fewest words. He worked with those whom others would not.

His breadth and depth of passions include his family and friends, sports, literature, music, art, travel, fine wines, great food and France.

On January 24, 1986 he married Evelyn Barley Riley at Braddock Street United Methodist Church.

Along with his wife, Evelyn, Kic is survived by his sons, Gregor Jean Kiczales and his wife, Gayle of Vancouver, BC and Vincent Laurence Kiczales and his partner, Richard Cunningham of Richmond, VA; step daughter, Amy Rhodes Barley and her husband, Gary McGraw of Berryville, VA and grandchildren, Jack, Nicholas, Eli, Alex, Kate, Luke and Noah.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his nanny, Marie “Biggy” Buckner.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Jones Funeral Home with Rabbi Scott M. Sperling officiating.
